The Die is Cast - South Africa Has Voted

However, this electorate has, in a sense, mumbled a bit, failing to express itself clearly. Particularly in Kwazulu Natal, it seems safe to say they were somewhat tipsy during the voting.
Now for the election results in detail: Nationwide, the ruling ANC lost about 17% compared to the last election, missing the absolute majority for the first time since 1994 with just over 40% of the votes.
In the Western Cape, our second home, the DA (Democratic Alliance) successfully defended its absolute majority with 55%. For us, these are great news, and it is expected that the Western Cape will continue its successful governance. Everything seems to run better there than in other regions, not thanks to, but despite the government in Pretoria.
The election outcome in Kwazulu Natal is particularly absurd, where former President Jacob Zuma, with his newly taken over party, “uMkhonto weSizwe” (the Spear of the Nation), emerged as the victor with over 45%. Remember, this is the polygamist with more than 20 children, known for dubious assertions regarding HIV, and has enriched himself from state resources, behavior usually associated with autocratic regimes.
The repercussions of this election for South Africa as a whole remain to be seen. Cooperation with Zuma's new party is practically ruled out, along with potential collaboration with extremist Julius Malema, whose conditions are hardly tenable.
Just 14 days after the election results are published, the newly elected parliament will convene on June 17 to elect a new president. This process may extend over several ballots. If no new president is in place within 30 days, new elections will be announced.
