Information about "Ghost Corner Pinot Noir 2024"
The Ghost Corner Pinot Noir 2024 is a beautifully crafted wine that showcases the classic aromas of wild berries, complemented by hints of rhubarb and ripe cherries, accented with notes of sage and rosemary, and underpinned by the characteristic scent of damp earth. On the palate, it reveals a wonderfully creamy mouthfeel along with well-structured tannins, leading to a pleasantly dry finish where subtle earthy nuances linger. Still young yet alluring, it promises to evolve into a stunning example of South African Pinot Noir.
The Ghost Corner range draws inspiration from the extreme coastal region of Cape Agulhas near Elim, known in Afrikaans as 'Spookdraai', or 'ghost bend', due to the many ships that met their demise here. These wines are as captivating and intense as the history of their origins at the southernmost tip of the Cape Winelands.
10% of the handpicked Pinot Noir grapes were fermented whole bunch, while the remaining 90% were completely destemmed. Fermentation occurred spontaneously in some stainless steel tanks, while others were inoculated with selected yeast cultures. During fermentation, the wine was pumped over once daily at a maximum temperature of 27°C, with the cap submerged twice a day by hand. After fermentation, the grapes were pressed and transferred to French barriques (228L), where malolactic fermentation was completed. The wine aged for 10 months in barrel (20% new oak, 20% second fill, 20% third fill, 20% fourth fill, and 20% fifth fill).
