The Quinta Dona Maria or Quinta do Carmo is one of the most beautiful and spectacular "country houses" in the region. Not only its beauty is remarkable, but also its history and the quality of its wines. The winery's chapel was built in 1752 and the house was built in honour of Dona Maria, who lends her name to the wine. A beautiful dream in the middle of the Alentejo. This old estate has been restored, modernised and brought up to the latest technical standards. But the old traditional techniques are still used, such as the old lagares and also the foot stamping method. Modernity meets tradition and is skilfully combined. Part of the Quinta do Carmo winery was sold to Lafite Rothschild in 1992, so to speak the Portuguese pillar of the famous French brand.
