Grape varieties for wine production include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, which are sourced from South Africa's five main growing regions - from vineyards spread across the Western Cape from Olifants River to Paarl, Stellenbosch and Worcester.

Kumala's oenologist, Ben Jordaan, continues a 300-year-old tradition of winemaking in South Africa and has mastered the art of creating fruity and accessible wines with distinctly characteristic flavours of the individual grape varieties. With a degree in Oenology and Viticulture from the University of Stellenbosch, Ben has gained remarkable and invaluable experience in almost all the world's major wine growing areas. Talent, experience and a great deal of enthusiasm are the main ingredients for a successful recipe.

Working closely with the winemaking team, the winemakers observe and work patiently on the individual grape varieties to ensure that they receive just the right amount of warm South African sunshine before being harvested at the optimum time. After all, the production of quality wines is something that cannot be tackled hastily and hastily.
