Information about "Leeu Passant Radicales Libres 2019"

On the nose, the Leeu Passant Radicales Libres 2019 unveils a vibrant medley of lemon, orange, and nectarine, interspersed with a hint of rancio—a term denoting wines that have matured under the sun, cultivating unique flavors and hues. The palate reflects great depth intertwined with invigorating energy. This exceptionally detailed Chardonnay concludes with a spicy finish, offering a subtle tannic presence. Concentrated yet not oily, it resonates with flavors reminiscent of warm crêpes drizzled with fresh lemon juice, followed by enticing notes of green almonds and saffron. Sourced from the elevated, stony slopes of Helderberg Mountain, near the cooling Atlantic currents of False Bay, this wine thrives at 400 meters above sea level, benefitting from the maritime breezes.

Treatment in the cellar

Grapes sourced from Barrydale in the Klein Karoo. Aged for 60 months in used barriques. Inspired by oxidatively matured white wines worldwide, Radicales Libres is crafted from Chardonnay harvested at optimal ripeness, followed by fermentation and extended aging (up to five years) in barrel.
