Vineyard Quinta da Aveleda
Quinta da Aveleda, widely known as one of Portugal's top wine producers, is a family-owned winery founded in 1671, with more than 300 years of tradition in wine production.
The history of the winery cannot be traced back exactly. However, there are countless historical records of the estate dating back to the 16th century. It has always been an agricultural estate, made up of several estates, which have been handed down through the years. Around 1850, Manuel Pedro Guedes de Silva da Fonseca, who had had enough of life in the capital and politics, began to fall more and more in love with his estate and decided to settle in Aveleda. Aveleda is still owned and run by the same family today. The history of the Guedes family has always been inseparable from the Quinta da Aveleda estate, which today is undoubtedly an integral part of the family identity.
At Aveleda, we are constantly striving to preserve this legacy that spans several generations.
Winemaker Manuel Soares was born in the Porto region in the town of Baião. He graduated in Oenology from UTAD University in Vila Real, Portugal in 1998 and completed his post-graduate studies at the prestigious School of Biotechnology ESB/UCP in Porto in 2003. He has been a winemaker on Aveleda since 1998 and was appointed Chief Winemaker of the estate in January 2001. Manuel is responsible for the entire Aveleda wine and brandy production and has been in close collaboration with Professor Denis Dubourdieu from Bordeaux since 1999.
With a strong influence from the Atlantic Ocean, at altitudes between 200 and 400 metres, Aveleda's 160 hectares of vines are located in the heart of the designated Vinho Verde region, where grape varieties such as Loureiro, Fernão Pires, Alvarinho, Arinto and Trajadura grow and thrive.
Aveleda's diverse portfolio of quality Portuguese wines includes the red Charamba Douro, three red blends and two white blends from the Bairrada region (the Follies and Grande Follie), five different compositions of Vinho Verde and a Vinho Verde Rosé. Aveledas Vinho Verde are typically light and fresh white wine, characterized by fruity and floral aromas. All wines have different acidity levels, sugar content and refined aromas and form a fantastic selection of first-class wines from one of Portugal's most famous winemakers.
