Vineyard Quinta da Romaneira
Nestled in the parted, terraced vineyards, the Quinta da Romaneira produces fantastic, highly awarded wines. The stony soils and the ludicrous slopes make the wines and port wines so characteristic. Recently a new chapter has begun in the long and illustrious history of the winery, which is part of the "Douro Revolution". The discovery that the old grape varieties so typical of port wine, such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca or Tinta Barocca, are also wonderfully suited for high quality, great table wines. The wines need not fear comparison with wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux or the Rhone Valley. Quinta da Romaneira stands for fantastic Vintage Ports and since 2004 also for very good, revolutionary dream wines. As almost everywhere in the traditional wineries, a lot is still done on foot to preserve the grapes. At Romaneira, this is done in steel lagares to achieve optimum cooling. With the winemaker Antonio Agrellos, they have brought a great man on board, who has already been awarded twice as "winemaker of the year" in the category port wines.
