Vineyard Real Companhia Velha
The history of Real Companhia Velha dates back to 1756, when the company was founded in Porto by Sebastian Jose de Carvalho e Melo, the Marquis de Pompal. The winery has an excellent reputation as a producer of high-quality port wines, which were exported all over the world at an early stage. It was obvious that the excellent vineyard sites in the Douro were suitable for the production of appealing style wines with international format. Real Companhia Velha is not only one of the largest landowners in the Douro Valley, but also owns some of the best vineyard sites in the world's oldest classified wine region (the DOC Douro was proclaimed by the Marquis de Pombal in 1758). There, the different grape varieties produce expressive and full-bodied white and red wines with a reasonable price/ enjoyment ratio.
