The Terra d'Alter Telhas Tinto 2021 enchants with a beautifully complex bouquet of freshly picked violets and luscious ripe red fruits, accompanied by subtle hints of ground pepper, roast beef, fine Chinese spices, and a delicate smokiness. On the palate, it displays exquisite balance with silky tannins and delightful nuances of cedar and vanilla. The finish reveals stunning elegance and harmony, making this premier Alentejo wine a true standout.
This remarkable red from Terras de Alter carries a touch of Roman influence, evident even in its label. The Viognier grapes for this wine thrive on the grounds of an ancient Roman villa, where fragments of tiles are regularly unearthed, lending the wine its name (Telhas means tiles in Portuguese).
Following a careful hand harvest, the grapes were sorted meticulously and fermented with native yeasts in small open tanks. Fermentation included battonage, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine matured in oak barrels for 18 months.
