The Thelema Sutherland Anna Chardonnay presents a remarkable terroir drive due to its chalky minerality and subtle notes of fresh-baked brioche. A seductive grapefruit essence on the palate beautifully rounds out the wood tones of this Chardonnay, providing long-lasting and refined acidity. However, although 30% of it went through malolactic fermentation and 80% new wood was used, this is not a lush and rich wine. Linear, toasty and complex, this great drop pampers with hints of cream, spice and vibrant fresh nuances of lemon and lime, providing balanced enjoyment.
After establishing Thelema Mountain Vineyards as a cult winery in Stellenbosch, owner and winemaker Gyles Webb established Sutherland Vineyards as an exciting new venture in the cool-climate Elgin region. Handcrafted from the finest vineyard parcels, the Sutherland Reserve Collection is a tribute to Gyles' four beloved granddaughters. Elegant, pure and full of nuance, this wine is named after Anna Vivienne Hilton (the patient one), the first granddaughter of Gyles.
Die alkoholische sowie malolaktische Fermentierung fand in französischen Eichenholzfässern mit einer Füllmenge von 228 l pro Fass statt, mit anschließender Reifung von 10 Monaten auf der groben Hefe. Während der zehnmonatigen Reifezeit wurde die Hefe im Wein regelmäßig auf- und untergerührt (batonnage), um eine optimale Komplexität im Wein zu erhalten. Nur die 12 besten Fässer wurden anschließend nach eingehender Qualitätsprüfung verschnitten und abgefüllt.
