Sparkling wines from Portugal
The finest sparkling wine from Portugal is called "Vinho Espumante". It represents strong aromas and elegant structures. It does not need to shy away from comparison with "real" Champagne, as the traditional Portuguese winemakers have developed their own style over the centuries. The most important ingredient is, of course, the native grapes of Portugal. For their Vinho Espumante, Portuguese winemakers like to use the traditional "white trio", Arinto, Bical, Maria Gomes, to which Chardonnay is often added. A tannin-rich, robust aroma is achieved in the famous red Vinho Espumante through Touriga, Maria Gomes, and Baga grapes. A single-varietal sparkling wine is, for example, made from the Gouveio grape. Espumante from Portugal is a festive, unique alternative. Give it a try!
