Product information "Alvi's Drift Verreaux Pinotage 2019"
Alvi's Drift Verreaux Pintoage is produced without any compromises in small quantities from grapes grown exclusively on Alvi's Drift's own vineyards. The intense colour in the glass releases aromas of juicy ripe fruit - sun-ripened mulberries and blackberries enchant the nose with subtle hints of fragrant leather, nuts and warm vanilla in the background. These aromas, already absorbed by the nose, are carried through seamlessly to the full-bodied palate in the form of complex taste nuances and provide a delicious pleasure. A Pinotage of very special class!
The Verreaux Eagle, (also known as the Black Eagle), is a large and majestic bird of prey that regularly circles the vineyards of Alvi's Drift. This rare and beautiful bird was named after Pierre Jules Verreaux, a French naturalist who was the first to describe numerous bird species in South Africa. In honour of Pierre Jules Verreaux and the eagle named after him, Alvi's Drift today gives its name to its flagship pinotage.

The grape material was crushed for fermentation in traditionally open fermentation tanks. The juice "bled" from the skins to obtain maximum colour and optimum phenolic values in the wine. With the use of fermentation, the pomace cap was submerged by hand up to eight times a day. After the fermentation was completed, the wine matured for 22 months in a combination of new French and American oak barrels.
