The Alvi’s Drift Verreaux Pinotage embodies the essence of South Africa’s noble grape, crafted from select grapes exclusively sourced from the estate's vineyards. Its deep, crimson hue welcomes the eyes, while the nose is enveloped in the sumptuous fragrances of ripe berries—sun-kissed mulberries and luscious blackberries—intertwined with subtle hints of fragrant leather, delicate spices, toasted nuts, and a whisper of warm vanilla. The Verreaux Eagle, a majestic bird of prey often seen soaring above Alvi’s Drift, captures the spirit of this wine. Named after the French naturalist Pierre Jules Verreaux, who first described numerous South African bird species, the winery honors him and this eagle with its flagship Pinotage.
Das Traubengut wurde zur Fermentierung in traditionell offenen Gärtanks gequetscht. Der Saft „blutete“ dabei von der Schale, um ein Maximum an Farbe und optimale phenolische Werte im Wein zu erhalten. Mit Einsatz der Gärung wurde der Tresterhut bis zu achtmal täglich per Hand untergetaucht. Nach Abschluss der Fermentierung reifte der Wein 22 Monate lang in einer Kombination aus neuen französischen sowie amerikanischen Eichenfässern.
