The Bellingham Bernard Series Basket Press Syrah 2022 is a bold and aromatic wine that presents a compelling character while balancing delicate finesse. A vibrant tapestry of freshly ground black and white pepper intertwines with luscious dark chocolate, enriched by intense notes of blackberry and mulberry, while subtle hints of floral violet and dried Fynbos elevate the complexity. The grapes for this exquisite Shiraz were handpicked and meticulously sorted berry by berry upon arrival at the winery. Following a gentle crushing, fermentation occurred spontaneously in open 500L French oak barrels, leading to a traditional basket press. The young wine was then transferred back into French barriques, where malolactic fermentation concluded, allowing for 12 months of maturation.
