White wine has taken a back seat, particularly in terms of its health benefits, which have been less researched. However, a recent study showed that white wine helps repair endothelial cells in the body.

Endothelial cells line your blood vessels, giving white wine heart-protective advantages, according to ScienceDirect. They form the innermost cell layer of blood vessels and come into direct contact with leukocytes, the blood's defense cells. This determines when and where leukocytes leave the vascular system to infiltrate infection and inflammation sites.

White wine also contains polyphenols, a plant-based antioxidant. These can reduce inflammation that causes issues like heart diseases. According to the Washington Post, a study from the University of Barcelona found these antioxidants are linked to weight loss and anti-aging effects.

Red wine captures all the attention, and for good reason. Trusted Sources reported that consuming red wine is associated with a lower risk of coronary heart disease.

A 2018 study also showed that the polyphenols in red wine and grapes improve gut microbiota and contribute to a healthy digestive system, according to Medical News Today.

The American Heart Association (AHA) states that resveratrol – an antioxidant found in red wine – can lower blood pressure and raise HDL (good) cholesterol levels.

Interestingly, both red and white wine drinkers report significant improvements in sleep quality.
