The Mint: The Return of a Cape Legend

We hope you have had a great week so far and are excited about the news from the Cape of the finest wines.

Today, we bring you a synchronized world premiere.

The “Thelema The Mint Cabernet Sauvignon” is back.

After the 2014 harvest, Gyles Webb decided to uproot this unique vineyard to combat the dreaded leafroll virus. A legend vanished from the market, leaving many sad fans.

Now, the anticipation for the first vintage from the newly replanted vineyard in 2016 after a soil regeneration pause is enormous.

Faster than expected, this legendary piece of land is producing impressive harvests again, breathing new life into this uniquely minty Cape legend.

The unmistakably minty aroma comes from a number of eucalyptus trees planted around the vineyard. Their scent is absorbed by the grape skins and unfolds its fine aroma after vinification.

In order to be well-prepared, we have already conducted our own tasting, and in our perception, the 2021 vintage stands shoulder to shoulder with the 2014.

As extraordinary as some wines from great old vines may be, what this mountain reveals even in its youth is undeniably among our Cape highlights and represents a grand promise for the future.

So, look forward to this wonderful drop.

Crescenda, the long-time head of the Thelema Tasting Center, will be coming to Germany in the fall and is looking forward to hosting a few tastings with our customers.
