Vineyard Cirrus Wines
Cirrus Wines is a transcontinental project between Jean Engelbrecht, owner of the famous Rust en Vrede winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa, and Ray Duncan, owner of Silver Oaks Cellars in Napa Valley, California.
Fascinated by the wine industry of California's Napa Valley, especially by the wines of Silver Oaks Cellars and the philosophy applied there, a close friendship soon developed between Jean Engelbrecht and Ray Duncan. Together they decided to start an intercontinental project between South Africa and California and to create a common wine - and so, Cirrus Wines was born.
As both wineries are dedicated to the production of red wines and the joint wine was to be produced in South Africa, it was therefore an easy and natural decision to create a Syrah with the aim of picking up the authentic essence of this noble grape variety with influences from Stellenbosch and the Napa Valley and combining it in a joint wine. The first vintage of the highly endowed Cirrus Syrah was the 2003 vintage - a thoroughly successful and highly interesting project of absolute world class!
