Information about "David Finlayson Camino Africana Chenin Blanc 2023"

Crafted from some of the oldest Chenin Blanc vines in South Africa, the David Finlayson Camino Africana Chenin Blanc 2023 embodies Stellenbosch's rich terroir. Minimal intervention during fermentation allows the profound character of these venerable vines to shine, revealing a symphony of stone fruit aromas, particularly green gage plum, alongside a distinctive minerality. The wine's velvety lanolin-like texture is complemented by a subtle saline note on the palate, a testament to the struggle of these vines to thrive in their environment. This exquisite Chenin Blanc is a masterclass in South African winemaking.

Treatment in the cellar The grapes for this highly acclaimed Chenin Blanc come from two vineyards planted in 1960. The Chenin Blanc berries were harvested by hand and pressed whole bunch. Fermentation took place for 12 months with natural yeasts in older French oak barrels. The wine matured on the lees for a further 12 months before being bottled for enjoyment. The wine was produced with an absolute minimum of intervention so that the old vines could express the true aromas of the site and the variety with as little human intervention as possible.
