The DeMorgenzon Reserve Chenin Blanc enchants with exuberant aromas of white blossoms and ripe summer peaches, subtly intertwined with hints of fragrant apricots. On the palate, this wine caresses with lavish flavors of mature pear, crisp apple, honey, and creamy almond, complemented by a delicate touch of vanilla bean. A world-class wine, it achieves brilliant harmony between exuberant fruit and a refreshing acidity. The oak influence is evident yet impeccably integrated, imparting notes of nutmeg and a whisper of flint that add depth and dimension. Sourced from low-yield vines planted in 1972, this Chenin Blanc benefits from the cooling breezes of nearby False Bay during the warm summer months.
The grapes were harvested at four different times to achieve optimal ripeness and balance in the wine. Handpicked in the early morning, the grapes were immediately cooled upon arrival at the winery and then pressed whole. The juice rested overnight before naturally fermenting in French oak barrels, with 20% of the barrels being new. After fermentation, the wine aged on its lees for ten months without stirring.
