The Hogan Chenin Blanc from Swartland, South Africa, reveals a complex bouquet of pear, peach, and citrus, harmoniously interlaced with floral and herbal notes alongside a subtle smoky nuance. The palate is precise and crisp, showcasing lively freshness, balanced acidity, and a gently spiced, slightly bitter finish. The Chenin Blanc grapes were hand-harvested in February from old bush vines planted on weathered granite in Joubertskloof, Swartland. The vineyard is irrigated and oriented to the east, contributing to a favorable low pH. Post-harvest, the grapes were cooled overnight to 10 degrees Celsius, then carefully sorted and gently pressed as whole berries without the addition of sulfur or any other additives. Natural fermentation took place in 225- and 300-liter barrels, followed by a spontaneous malolactic fermentation, after which the wine received its first sulfur addition. Finally, the wine was racked off the gross lees and bottled.
