Information about "Hogan Mirror for the Sun Cabernet Franc 2024"

A mesmerizing bouquet emerges from the Hogan Mirror for the Sun Cabernet Franc, revealing notes of rose petals, violets, and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. The aromatic profile is complemented by ripe red currants, blueberries, fine Fynbos notes, tea, and a whisper of graphite. On the palate, the wine is clearly delineated and balanced, showcasing radiant acidity, refined fruit concentration, and silky, powdery tannins. Its structure is precise, with a straightforward and invigorating style.

In the glass, it gleams in vibrant ruby red, exuding a ripe, spicy fruitiness reminiscent of the energetic style of the Loire. This fresh, medium-bodied character wine offers finesse and depth – making it ideal for a midday meal, yet capable of evolving beautifully over the coming years.

Treatment in the cellar

The Cabernet Franc grapes are sourced from 15-year-old, trellised vines in the lower Helderberg on granite-rich soils. Located just 2 km from the coast, the maritime influence is particularly advantageous during the hot months of February and March in Stellenbosch. Leaf thinning in the fruit zone (in November/December) is crucial to allow sufficient sunlight on the grapes and prevent green, vegetal aromas. The grapes were hand-selected and destemmed (no whole cluster fermentation). Fermentation took place spontaneously in open fermentation vessels, with gentle handling – just two manual punchdowns per day. The wine matured for nine months in older 225-liter French oak barrels.
