A mesmerizing bouquet emerges from the Hogan Mirror for the Sun Cabernet Franc, revealing notes of rose petals, violets, and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. The aromatic profile is complemented by ripe red currants, blueberries, fine Fynbos notes, tea, and a whisper of graphite. On the palate, the wine is clearly delineated and balanced, showcasing radiant acidity, refined fruit concentration, and silky, powdery tannins. Its structure is precise, with a straightforward and invigorating style.
In the glass, it gleams in vibrant ruby red, exuding a ripe, spicy fruitiness reminiscent of the energetic style of the Loire. This fresh, medium-bodied character wine offers finesse and depth – making it ideal for a midday meal, yet capable of evolving beautifully over the coming years.
Die Cabernet Franc-Trauben stammen von 15 Jahre alten, am Drahtrahmen gezogenen Reben aus dem unteren Helderberg auf granithaltigen Böden. Der Weinberg liegt nur 2 km von der Küste entfernt. Der maritime Einfluss ist besonders in den heißen Monaten Februar und März in Stellenbosch äußerst vorteilhaft. Das Entblättern in der Traubenzone (im November/Dezember) ist in diesem Weinberg eine wichtige Maßnahme, um ausreichend Sonnenlicht an die Trauben zu lassen und grünen, vegetalen Aromen vorzubeugen. Die Trauben wurden selektiert und entrappt (keine Ganztraubenvergärung). Die spontane Gärung fand in offenen Gärbehältern statt, mit sehr schonender Behandlung – lediglich zwei manuelle Punchdowns pro Tag. Der Wein reifte anschließend neun Monate lang in 225-Liter-Fässern aus älterer französischer Eiche.
