In the glass, the Keermont Topside Syrah 2019 reveals a deep plum hue, enticing with a stunning bouquet of black cherries, delicate rose petals, and hints of ripe strawberries and tea leaves. On the palate, it is soft yet juicy, showcasing a robust tannic structure that supports intense notes of red fruits and sandalwood. The long finish is marked by a luxurious balance of aromatic fruit, vibrant acidity, and firm structure.
The Topside Syrah vineyards are perched on the western slopes of the Stellenbosch mountain range at an elevation of 350 meters. The altitude and soil composition—comprised of sandstone and granite—significantly contribute to the wine's spicy character and refined tannin structure.
The hand-picked grapes for this masterful Syrah come exclusively from Keermont's own vineyards, vinified separately according to block and ripeness. Fermentation occurred naturally and gently in open fermenters. After fermentation, the wine matured for 20 months in French barriques (500 l) and was bottled by hand, unfiltered.
