Information about "Kloovenburg Eight Feet Red 2023"

The Kloovenburg Eight Feet Red presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby red colour that is both captivating and rich to the eye. The nose reveals a seductive bouquet of red berries and dark fruits, accompanied by delicate notes of fynbos and spices that reflect the essence of the South African terroir. The masterful combination of 48% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 15% Mourvedré and 7% Carignan creates concentrated fruit flavours on the palate, supported by a fine structure. It is both elegant and powerful, with a depth that lingers long on the palate.

Treatment in the cellar The entire harvesting process was carried out by hand in the early hours of the morning, and the grapes were then cooled overnight in an air-conditioned room at 5 °C. A large proportion (85%) of the Syrah was then pressed and destemmed, while the remaining 15% was fermented whole bunch. Of the Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, 30% was fermented as whole grapes, while the rest was destemmed and crushed. This was followed by three days of cold extraction at 9 °C, covered with a CO₂ blanket. Fermentation took place in open fermentation tanks. All grapes fermented spontaneously and separately. Extraction was carried out by pumping over twice a day. After fermentation was complete, the wine was left on the skins for a further seven days. The Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan were pressed into neutral French oak barrels ranging from 300 L to 500 L. The pressed portion was stored separately. Malolactic fermentation was completed in the barrel. The wine was then racked off the lees and treated with a low dose of sulphur. The wine spent a total of nine months in the barrel before being blended and bottled.
