The Land of Hope Syrah showcases a remarkably fresh approach to Syrah from Stellenbosch. Its character is primarily derived from elegant spice and fynbos aromas, complemented by a delightful medley of ripe red fruits and subtle smoky notes. This wine delights the palate with a structured yet silky texture. Unlike many Syrahs known for their bold and polished style, this expression takes the less trodden path, revealing a restrained and nuanced interpretation of one of the Cape's most thrilling varietals.
Die Trauben wurden von Hand gelesen, zerstoßen, komplett entrappt und in große Fermenter aus Edelstahl gegeben, wo die Maische mehrere Tage lang eine Kaltquellphase auf der Haut unterlief, um ein Maximum an Frucht, Farbe und Aromen zu extrahieren. Man entschied sich im Gegensatz zur üblichen Gärung bei warmen Temperaturen mit anschließend ausgedehntem Zeitraum auf der Haut bei diesem Syrah für eine kühle und spontane Fermentierung sowie für die sofortige Entfernung der Schalen nach Abschluss der Gärung. Umgepumpt wurde der Wein maximal ein- bis zweimal am Tag, was die Extraktion von weichem Tannin und eine geschmeidige Textur begünstigt. 50 % des Weines reiften sechs Monate lang in älteren französischen Eichenfässern (Dritt-, Viert- und Fünftbefüllung) und wurden nach Abschluss der Reifung mit der im Stahltank gereiften Hälfte verschnitten und abgefüllt.
