The Neil Ellis Rodanos captivates with its deep, dark color and an enchanting bouquet of ripe dark and red berries, layered with fragrant violet notes and subtle hints of pepper. On the palate, it unfolds luscious flavors of dark cherries and plums, culminating in a persistent, spicy finish. The mouthfeel is generous, featuring a soft texture and refined tannins.
Rodanos is derived from the ancient Celtic name for the Rhône region in France, renowned for its Syrah and Grenache grapes.
The harvest commenced earlier than usual, starting on February 20 and extending into the third week of March. Grapes were picked at a must weight between 24.5 and 25.5°B, with a total acidity of 7 g/l and a pH of 3.4, yielding 3 to 6.5 tons per hectare. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by a series of punchdowns and pump-overs until dry. A whole-bunch fermentation of 30% was employed.
The wine matured for 14 months in 500-liter French oak barrels, with 25% in new oak, 50% third-fill, and 25% in neutral wood.
