Quinta do Passadouro

Vineyard Quinta do Passadouro

Winemaker and director of the Quinta do Passadouro, Jorge Serôdio Borges, comes from the Douro region himself, from an old-established family, which is already in the fifth generation in the port wine trade. Here, award-winning Douro wines such as Passadouro Tinto, Passadouro Passa Red, Passadouro Passa Rosé and Passadouro Reserva Tinto are created from the typical indigenous grape varieties of the Douro region such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Sousão and Tinta Barroca. Jorge Borges' highly endowed port wines include the Quinta do Passadouro Ruby Reserva Port, Vintage Ports and various LBV vintages (late bottles vintages).

The winegrowing land of the German-Belgian owners of the Quinta do Passadouro, the Bohrmann family, is divided into two different quintas, the Quinta do Passadoro with 20 hectares of land for winegrowing and another 5 hectares for olive growing, and the Quinta do Sibio with 20 hectares of vines. In the last few years there has been a high level of investment in the vineyards and the modernisation of the winery and its equipment.

While the winery is at the cutting edge of technology for the production of wines, the venerable tradition of the Douro region is cherished. For example, the grapes for the winery's port wines are still crushed using only leg power and fermented in traditional granite 'lagares'.

The unbeatable success of the Quinta do Passadouro is undoubtedly due to the preservation of traditional production methods combined with technology at the highest level and a great deal of passion - always with the aim of creating wines of unmistakable character with respect for the outstanding terroir of the Douro region.
