Rickety Bridge Winery

Vineyard Rickety Bridge Winery

The Rickety Bridge Winery is situated close to the picturesque town of Franschhoek, known as the delicatessen and wine capital of the Cape. It nestles on the hills of the Dassenberg and extends to the Franschhoek River - the perfect canvas for winemaker Wynand Grobler to create a portfolio of premium Franschhoek wines.

The history of this area dates back to 1694, when farms in the valley at the foot of the Franschhoek Mountains were awarded to Huguenot farmers. Rickety Bridge was once part of the original La Provence farm.

Only in the late 80s and early 90s did the estate become known as Rickety Bridge. The name comes from an old rickety bridge on the estate that was mostly just wooden beams and was not suitable for large vehicles.

The estate is without doubt one of the most advanced boutique wineries in the Cape. The historic cellar has recently been restored and converted into a building used exclusively for barrel fermentation. Rickety Bridges' new winery is of the highest standard, which is worthy of note, and has state-of-the-art cooling facilities.

The flagship range "Paulina's Reserve" proudly bears the name of its former owner Paulina de Villiers, with Paulina's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon truly being a king among South African red wines. These distinctive South African wines, as well as the popular Rickety Bridge Classic range, have won numerous awards and prizes at international level.
