Rust en Vrede Estate 2021 is an exemplary representation of South Africa's terroir, commanding attention with its deep garnet hue. The nose is a captivating bouquet of mulberries intertwined with layers of cassis, cedar, and a whisper of tobacco. The substantial Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone of this blend, gracefully complemented by bright red and black cherries with a hint of black pepper showcasing the nuanced Syrah component. On the palate, it reveals luscious Merlot fruit, enriched with notes of mocha, fruitcake, and leather, drawing the taster into its complexity. Seventy percent of the wine aged for 22 months in 300-liter French oak barrels, of which 40% was new wood; 40% matured in second-fill barrels; 20% in third-fill barrels; and 30% in 500-liter casks.
