Sadie Family Die Ouwingerdreeks Skerpioen 2024 is a masterful creation from ancient Swartland vines of Chenin Blanc and Palomino, standing as a testament to South Africa's finest offerings. The nose is enveloped in stunning aromas of fragrant quince, lemon zest, dried herbs, and apricot, culminating in a salty minerality kissed with a touch of floral honey. The most remarkable feature of this acclaimed Swartland wine is its incredibly fresh and juicy character, paired with a distinctively crisp acidity—thanks to the unique terroir! Located just 2 km from the Atlantic Ocean, this area is one of the coolest in Swartland while remaining extraordinarily dry, with an average annual rainfall of around 300 mm. The name Ou Wingerdreeks translates to 'old vine,' highlighting a series of wines made from special ancient vines of the Cape. Skerpioen means scorpion in Afrikaans.
The grapes for the Skerpioen originate from over 60-year-old vines, aged for 12 months in older barrels previously used for fermentation.
