Information about "Sijnn Red 2021"

In the glass, the Sijnn Red unveils a captivating deep crimson hue that entices the senses. Aromas of earthy Fynbos, ripe red plums, and subtle herbaceous notes lead into a bouquet that is both complex and intriguing. A vibrant freshness permeates the nose and palate, punctuated by whispers of red fruit intermingling with hints of olive brine and schist. The mid-palate explodes with layers of cassis, blueberries, and a medley of spices, enticing the taster to revisit. The dry finish leaves a lingering desire for another sip.

This distinctive Sijnn blend comprises 39% Syrah/Shiraz, 18% Tinta Amarela, 18% Touriga Nacional, 11% Grenache Noir, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Mourvèdre, and 3% Carignan. The term 'sijnn' is derived from the Khoisan word for 'riverbank,' pronounced 'sayn.'

Grown in Malgas along the Breede River, this wine comes from the region's sole appellation classified as 'Premier Cru.'

Treatment in the cellar

Handpicked and carefully sorted in the early morning, grapes were destemmed and placed in small oak barrels and stainless steel tanks for natural fermentation at 29°C. Skin contact lasted nine days, with pressing only once in a traditional basket press, followed by malolactic fermentation in oak.
