With its delicate golden hue and a hint of lemon zest at the rim, the Spier Seaward Chenin Blanc captivates the nose with vibrant aromas of fresh citrus, ripe lime, and peach, layered with subtle notes of apricot and melon. On the palate, this wine offers a complex and creamy texture, where generous lime nuances dance harmoniously with a lively, well-balanced acidity. The vineyards benefit from proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, allowing cooling breezes to enrich the fruit's character, creating a remarkable representation of its terroir.
The grapes were meticulously hand-harvested and promptly cooled before being carefully sorted, destemmed, and crushed. Post-crushing, skin contact was limited to four hours, and the free-run juice was collected and allowed to rest overnight. Twenty percent of the juice was fermented in 300/400L French oak barrels, while the remainder underwent vinification in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, both components were blended in a steel tank, aging the Chenin on its lees for an additional six months, followed by 14 months in 10% new oak and 90% older barrels prior to bottling.
