The Springfield Thunderchild is a classic red blend crafted from 35% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 30% Merlot. It captivates with aromas of ripe berry fruit and juicy plum, intertwined with subtle hints of fine oak. These enticing scents carry through to the well-balanced palate, where a firm yet gentle structure offers a juicy and elegant character for a refined tasting experience.
In the wake of the 1918 influenza epidemic, the community of Robertson established an orphanage, 'Die Herberg,' for abandoned and impoverished children. In 2003, a five-hectare vineyard was planted on the orphanage grounds, with all materials, soil preparation, and irrigation donated. This classic blend is produced free of charge by participating wineries and sold to benefit children, who are no longer only orphans but often come from troubled family situations. The name Thunderchild - Children of the Storm symbolizes the 'storm' of life these children face early on. 100% of the grapes for this unique blend are grown on the orphanage grounds, and 100% of the profits are donated to the children, with only verified costs being compensated, while time and effort are offered without remuneration.
The grape harvest was conducted at optimal ripeness, applying cold soaking to whole berries before fermentation in open tanks for 10 days. During fermentation, the cap was pushed down twice daily. Following three weeks, fermentation completed, and the wine was pressed into selected barrels for malolactic fermentation. Afterward, it matured for 12 months in barriques before being bottled unfiltered.
