The Wolftrap Red 2024 enchants the senses with a deep bouquet of black fruits entwined with hints of violet, black pepper, and smoked meat, complemented by delicate nuances of dried coriander and tar. This robust and vibrant aromatic profile carries through to the palate, revealing a medley of intriguing flavors including licorice, black olives, cardamom, lingonberries, red currants, and cloves. On the mid-palate, the blend of three Mediterranean varietals—Syrah (79%), Mourvèdre (20%), and a touch of Viognier (1%)—harmonizes seamlessly, embodying the distinctive characteristics of Swartland with notes of dark fruit, violets, and tapenade. The finish lingers in an elegantly smoky and incredibly juicy style, making this a versatile companion for a variety of cuisines.

The Wolftrap pays homage to the pioneers who bravely ventured into the wilderness of the Cape and set a wolf trap on Boekenhoutskloof. To this day, neither a real nor mythical wolf has been spotted in the valley. The Wolftrap – an original from Boekenhoutskloof!

Treatment in the cellar

The various varietals of this highly popular blend were fermented separately in stainless steel tanks and partially aged for nine months in French barriques before being blended and bottled.
