The Thelema Sutherland Lisa Grenache Noir captivates in the glass with enchanting aromas of fragrant rose petals and ripe raspberries, complemented by subtle hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate reveals a full-bodied yet elegantly refined structure, adorned with silky ripe tannins, and nuanced herbal notes of tobacco leaf alongside strawberries and cherries.
Founded as a pioneering winery in Stellenbosch, Thelema Mountain Vineyards has ventured into the Cool-Climate region of Elgin with Sutherland Vineyards, established by owner and winemaker Gyles Webb. Crafted from the finest vineyard plots, the Sutherland Reserve Collection pays tribute to Gyles's cherished four granddaughters. This particular wine honors Lisa Rose Webb, the fourth granddaughter, reflecting the grace and vivacity emblematic of her personality.
A significant portion of the grapes was fermented whole, uncrushed, to retain superior fruit character. During fermentation, the must was pumped over twice daily. To achieve an optimal balance of oak notes and tannins, the wine was aged for 17 months in older oak barrels before bottling.
