The Thistle & Weed Brandnetel Chenin Blanc captivates with a vibrant bouquet of winter melon, lime, and a hint of salty sea air! On the palate, it exhibits a rich and flavorful profile, with gentle oak nuances setting the stage for an intense citrus finish, complemented by refreshing acidity and a prolonged finale.
Brandnetel is the Afrikaans word for stinging nettle. It embodies dualities: wild yet soft, painful yet invigorating; robust yet humble. This often-overlooked weed weaves magic into folklore and vitality into soils. Inspired by these contrasts, this unique Chenin Blanc serves as a reminder that the magic flows from the earth to the glass, enriching our lives.
The grapes were gently pressed and underwent natural fermentation. Only free-run juice was fermented in older French oak barrels. The wine matured on its lees for 10 months and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. This exceptional vineyard is situated at the foot of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, with granitic soils that exhibit high weathering. Large sandstone fragments on the surface contribute to a coarse, well-draining topsoil. The vineyard was established in 1980 at an elevation of 300 meters.
