Information about "Val du Charron Black Countess 2022"
The Val du Charron Black Countess 2022 captivates with its deep color, highlighted by a ruby rim. This elegant wine showcases an intricate bouquet of blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, and cherry intertwined with hints of dried herbs, vanilla, and cinnamon. On the palate, delightful flavors of sweet cranberry, cherry, and chocolate unfold, creating a rich profusion that defines this exquisite blend. Dominated by red fruit nuances, the wine is beautifully complemented by well-integrated oak notes. This robust blend consists of 40% Shiraz, 24% Pinotage, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache Noir, and 6% Petit Verdot.
The Black Countess pays tribute to the first woman of color in the British Empire, Martha, the daughter of a freed slave, who married Harry Grey, the first Earl of Stamford. Despite facing disdain from the British aristocracy, she returned to South Africa, dedicating her estate to establishing farm schools for children of all backgrounds and genders—a true philanthropist ahead of her time!
After fermentation, the wine matured for 16 months in French oak barrels. This is followed by the blending process and bottling.
