The Vergelegen Flagship Estate Red 2021 is an exceptional blend crafted in the esteemed Bordeaux style. This complex wine unveils an aromatic bouquet of ripe plums, dark chocolate, graphite, cassis, and cedar wood. On the palate, it harmoniously balances fruit, tannins, and acidity, elegantly underscored by notes of dark cherries and blackcurrants, complemented by a fresh minerality. A hallmark of the vintage, this wine exemplifies exquisite craftsmanship and perfect equilibrium.
The grapes were handpicked, and the must was fermented with natural yeasts over three to four weeks. Following this, the young wine matured in new French barriques for 18 months, utilizing 100% new oak. 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec, 6% Petit Verdot.
