The Vondeling Bowwood Pinotage 2022 captivates with an exceptionally rich bouquet of dark blackberries and ripe cherries, accentuated by a tantalizing hint of sweet clove spice and creamy oak undertones. On the palate, it envelops the senses with luscious layers of robust berry fruit and black plums, beautifully intertwined with subtle notes of freshly roasted almonds and cigar box. Its broad, plush mouthfeel showcases remarkable fruit intensity, soft acidity, and silky tannins. A full-bodied, modern wine of international finesse, this is only the third vintage of the Bowwood Pinotage, promising significant potential for further aging.

Treatment in the cellar The grapes were hand-picked in the early hours of the morning and carefully sorted for further processing. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were cooled before being completely destemmed and subjected to a second sorting. The berries were not crushed, but fermented whole, resulting in a gradual extraction of tannins and colour, ensuring fine finesse and great ageing potential. During fermentation in open vats, the cap of skins was submerged at regular intervals for five days and, shortly before reaching the desired degree of dryness, was pressed in a traditional basket press into American oak barrels. After alcoholic fermentation was complete, malolactic fermentation was completed in the barrel. The wine then matured on the lees for 14 months, after which the best five barrels (300 litres per barrel) were blended and matured for a further eight months in the barrel. The wine then spent another six months in steel tanks, which ensures stability and clarity, before finally being bottled. Before release, the wine was aged for another year in the bottle.
