When Jorge Serôdio Borges and his wife Sandra Tavares da Silva, two of Portugal's most renowned winemakers, embarked on their journey with this innovative yet rustic winery, they wanted to bring their extensive experience to a winery that would represent the traditional grape varieties of the Douro Valley on an international level.

Sandra Tavares da Silva is a true pioneer among Portugal's best winemakers – one of the first female winemakers in the Douro Valley. In 1999, Sandra received her Master of Enology in Italy and promptly returned to Portugal, where she began her career in the Douro at Quinta Vale D. Maria. Although Sandra worked as a sought-after model in Paris, Milan, London and New York at the age of 16, she always knew that her life belonged in the vineyards. In 2009, Sandra Tavares achieved the highest rating in the ‘Portuguese Wine’ category at Robert Parker with 95 points for one of her wines.

Jorge Serôdio Borges

Jorge Serôdio Borges was born into a family with a long tradition of winemaking, now in its fifth generation in the port wine trade and an institution in the Douro Valley. No wonder he learned the art of winemaking from his mother's milk. In 2016, Jorge was named Winemaker of the Year. As a winemaker, he also looks after Quinta do Passadouro, Quinta do Fojo and Quinta da Manoella.

With more than 30 indigenous and traditional grape varieties from the Douro region, Wine & Soul produces award-winning wines worldwide under the two wine ranges ‘Pintas’ and ‘Manoella’, some of which come from vines that are more than 80 years old.
