Vineyard Strandveld Wines
Strandveld owns the southernmost vineyards in Africa, with a farm located just 11 km from the Atlantic Ocean, between the Elim region and the famous Cape Agulhas. The cool climate and the unique location offer excellent conditions for the production of special wines.
A group of friends (all enthusiastic wine lovers), inspired by the old nautical charts of the 15th century, made the decision to embark on an adventure of their own - to produce their own wine. With the help of ancient maps of these explorers, they searched for a suitable location to plant their first vineyards, with an eye on being close to the ocean. In July 2001 the friends found a somewhat run-down 800 ha farm for growing grain and raising sheep, only a few kilometres from the tip of South Africa - Strandveld was born!
Conrad Vlok is a winemaker on Strandveld and describes the two different wine lines of the winery as follows: The wines of his First Sighting range are recommended for light and everyday enjoyment. Wine connoisseurs will find wonderfully generous flavours and aromas here, which are the result of the coastal origin and the slower maturing process that goes with it. The Strandveld range is for wine lovers who wish to explore and experience the unique terroir of the Elim region. At Strandveld, decisions in the vineyard as well as in the cellar always revolve around the concept of creating versatile wines that are wonderful to drink on their own, but are also perfect companions both for simple cuisine and for very special occasions.
