This 24-year-old biodynamically grown Thistle and Weed Knapsekêrel Cabernet Franc hails from the Oudeberg vineyard in Stellenbosch's Polkadraai region, where it thrives alongside the Knapsekêrel weeds. With proximity to the ocean, the vineyard benefits from refreshing breezes, imparting a distinctive bouquet to the wine. Aromas of thyme, violets, and blackberries dominate the nose, beautifully complemented by concentrated plums and chalky tannins. This is truly a remarkable red wine experience!
Interestingly, Knapsekêrel also means “handsome man” in Afrikaans. While often regarded as a weed, many communities worldwide value it for its nutritional and medicinal purposes!
