Don't Miss: Weekly Offers and News from the Wine World
Journal Soziale Verantwortung, Wissenswertes, Südafrikanisches Weingut , Portugal
We’ve been watching the pandemic situation in Germany with growing concern. On November 6th, South Africa reported 368 new cases, while Germany's figures were approximately 100 times higher. For those hesitant about visiting the Cape, this is something to consider.
When it comes to wines, this week we focus on wines from Rupert. The Rupert family is the most well-known industrial family in South Africa and is among the wealthiest families globally. Many rare jobs in South Africa depend directly or indirectly on the Ruperts. During the height of the COVID crisis, Johann Rupert supported small and medium-sized businesses with roughly 60 million euros through his investment fund, and he continues to engage in numerous ways, including through the charitable organization Imibala, which his wife runs in Somerset West, with whom we collaborate through our association, Lebenslinien e.V.
The family is also significantly involved in agriculture through various wineries. It’s worth mentioning how surprised we were a few years ago when Johann Rupert himself answered a phone call from the winery concerning a specific analysis value in one of his wines. Although he could not help much with my inquiry, he was keen to connect me with the right colleague.
So, this week we have wines from two different Rupert family wineries. Among them are the Proteas and Optima from Anthonij Rupert, the estate taken over by Johann after the tragic loss of his brother Anton, and the Rupert & Rothschild wines produced from the partnership established in 1997 between the late Anthon Rupert and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. The selection ranges from high-end everyday whites to premium reds, and includes some of the finest wines available.
From Portugal, we also offer wines from the Fundacao de Almeida, known for perhaps the most prestigious wine estate in Portugal. The profits from the Cartuxa winery, which is state-owned, support cultural development projects in the Évora region. For us wine enthusiasts, these products serve as delights for the palate and, in the case of certain top products, truly ecstatic vinous experiences.
This small selection of six wines spans from the certified organic EA Tinto to the esteemed Cartuxa wines, concluding with potentially the most sought after and expensive Portuguese wine, the Pera Manca Tinto. Unfortunately, we can only offer three bottles at a special price, with a limit of one per customer. The same applies to the Pera Manca Branco, though we have a few more bottles available here.
This total offer ranges from premium everyday white wine from South Africa to one of the world's most sought-after wines.
(Offers valid from 11.11 to 18.11.)
