Vineyard Diemersfontein

Since the early 1940s the farm has been owned by the Sonnenberg family. In 1970 the first vines were planted, in 2000 the own winery was built and in 2001 the world famous Diemersfontein Pinotage was born. The typical mocha notes of this wine started a trend in the Cape that continues to this day. So-called Mocha Pinotage or Coffee Chocolate Pinotage can be found in the assortment of many wineries today. The Java Pinotage from Van Loveren or the Barista Pinotage are only two of many examples. But the most successful of all is the original, the Diemersfontein Pinotage. In addition to the standard Diemersfontein line, the premium line Carpe Diem bottles the winery's absolute top qualities. The Carpe Diem Pinotage with 4.5 stars in the John Platter wine guide, for example, is certainly one of the best wines of this grape variety in South Africa.

Even though Pinotage is the dominant grape variety at Diemersfontein, other grape varieties are also grown. In addition to the well-known Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, the less well-known Viognier, Barbera, Roobernet and Mourvedre are also harvested here.
