Vineyard Idiom Wines
Most of the grapes for the two wine collections Idiom Wines and Bottega Family Wines are grown on the Da Capo Vineyards in South Africa's Stellenbosch wine region and in the Hemel-en-Aarde area. Da Capo Vineyards is home to 14 different grape varieties, including some Mediterranean and Italian varieties that are rather rare in South Africa such as Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and Primitivo (Zinfandel).
As the name clearly indicates, Italy plays a major role at Bottega Family Wines. Owner Alberto Bottega's vision is to produce a wide range of great and interesting wines of first-class quality, one of which is as unique and enjoyable as the next.
The Idiom Collection is an exclusive range of award-winning wines, with a wonderful variety of varietal wines and talented cuvées on the menu. Idiom Wines' portfolio comes from the Da Capo Vineyards, which are located in the southernmost part of the Stellenbosch wine region, close to Sir Lowry's Pass and overlooking the picturesque coastline of False Bay. The Idiom range is best known for its iconic cuvées such as the Cape Blend, a Bordeaux-style blend and a Rhône-style blend.
Named after the sheltering bay that shelters Southern Right Whales in the cold winter months at the Cape, Whalehaven is a boutique winery in the Hermanus region of Walker Bay that produces a delicious range of elegant and noble French wines that caress the palate with a wealth of finesse and class and beguile the senses. Over the years, Whalehaven has made a name for itself with its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the French style, with typical wonderful Burgundy elegance. These Burgundy varieties are icons of the Hermanus wine region and are already a tradition in the portfolio of the Whalehaven Winery.
Winemaker Reino Thiart has been awarded numerous stars in the South African John Platter Wine Guide, as well as prestigious awards and recognitions for his Idiom and Whalehaven wines - testimony to his first-class quality and passion for great wine!
