Sparkling wines from South Africa

South Africa's "Bubbly" is taking the world by storm

Only for about 50 years have sparkling wines been produced in South Africa using the Méthode Champenoise and the Méthode Traditionnelle. In South Africa, all sparkling wines fall under the term "Bubbly", whether it is a Méthode Cap Classique or a sekt, which is referred to here as Sparkling Wine.

South African MCCs are produced, like French champagne, from the three varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier, although grape varieties such as Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and sometimes even Riesling are also used. The first-class and highly rated MCCs from South Africa's Cape Winelands can undoubtedly stand on par with the French original and delight with wonderful freshness and fine citrus nuances.
