Wineries in Italy
Italy, the oldest wine-growing region in Europe, is also one of the most important wine-growing countries in the world today. Italy is divided into a total of twenty wine regions, each with its own unique style of wine.
The winegrowers of the more than 100 Italian vineyards produce over two billion bottles of high-quality wine every year on around 168,000 hectares.

Fine Italian wines for export
Many of the fine wines are exported, so many that Italian winemakers are now among the largest wine exporters in the world. The largest private Italian wineries are "Antinori", "Zonin 1821" and "Frescobaldi". In addition to the "big players" in the industry, there are also smaller wineries, particularly in Veneto, Piedmont, Lombardy and Tuscany, as well as in Sicily. Italian wines such as Barolo, Brunello and Chianti are among the most popular and best in the world today. In terms of the quantity of wine produced, Italy is just behind the leading wine nation, France.
Italian wineries are part of Italian culture
Italian vineyards and Italian wine are inextricably linked to Italian culture and have been since the 8th century BC. Wine was already being produced in Italy at that time. After a temporary decline and a period in which wine from France was favoured, viticulture in Italy was revived in Piedmont and Tuscany in the 19th century. From here, Italian wine continued its triumphal march throughout the country.
